Veterinary Medical Center of Athens is a full-service veterinary clinic for all your pets needed. We offer a range of veterinary services, from routine to emergency services. We have extended hours and can provide your pet with any of our veterinary services until 10 pm every night. Our incredible services include:

  • Orthopedic Surgical Care

Our veterinarians’ particular interest in small animal surgery has led to the development of a program with state-of-the-art surgical facilities including modern anesthesia techniques, constant patient monitoring, intensive care facilities, physical therapy sessions, in-house laboratory, and modern diagnostic technology. We provide orthopedic surgeries to help your pet relieve your pet from pain and return to daily activities as quickly as possible.

  • Emergency Surgical Care

Our surgical team has advanced training and years of experience in emergency surgeries. Also, because we have state-of-the-art equipment, this allows your pet to have access to the best modern medical care so that we can provide your pet with emergency surgeries services at any given moment when your pet’s health or life is at risk.

  • Routine Surgical Care

Our state-of-the-art surgical suites are designed to provide a host of modern surgical options, including spays, neuters, and other standard surgical procedures. Our surgical team has advanced training and years of experience in routine and elective surgeries. We offer regular and elective surgical care Monday-Fridays.

  • Dental & Oral Health Care

Having your pet checked regularly for signs of dental disease is essential. Dental disease does not just affect the mouth. Bacteria and oral inflammation can lead to heart, kidney, and liver disease. We recommend regular dental exams and teeth cleanings to keep your pet’s teeth clean and healthy. Dental services offered at VMCA will include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions, and oral surgery. We offer $20.00 off Dental Cleanings during February and August to help promote pet dental awareness.

  • Annual Wellness Care

Our veterinarians recommend regular wellness exams for the same reason your physician and dentist recommend them. Wellness exams are the best way to prevent or detect disease early before it becomes a severe health condition. Each examination will vary slightly depending on your pet's species, age, and health needs. Our wellness exams include a comprehensive physical and dental exam, in-depth screenings for diseases like heartworm and intestinal parasites, annual vaccinations, and food and nutritional recommendations. We offer wellness programs tailored to the needs of your pets.

  • Puppy & Kitten Care

Congratulations on your new companion! Having your new pet examined is essential and should be done within a few days of bringing them home. On their first visit, your veterinarian will thoroughly inspect your puppy or kitten to identify any potential health problems early on. Also, the doctor will answer any questions about caring for your pet. Our puppy and kitten exams include a thorough physical and dental exam, flea and tick control, intestinal parasite testing, and vaccinations.

  • Senior Pet Care

Keeping a watchful eye on your pet when they reach their senior years is very important. Due to the variety of conditions and diseases that affect older pets, our veterinarians and highly trained veterinary staff can help you monitor and treat your senior pet if any health concerns arise. Senior pet wellness exams include a thorough physical and dental exam, appropriate diagnostic tests, and a review of your pet's diet and medication protocol.

  • Digital Radiology

We offer digital radiographs to diagnose better and treat pets that are sick or injured. Digital radiography provides x-ray images without the use of conventional film. This produces high-quality images while delivering the lowest possible radiation exposure to your pet. These images can be easily enlarged to enhance the smallest of details and assist veterinarians in making a diagnosis and promptly treating the diagnosis.

  • Diagnosis Ultrasounds

Digital ultrasound is an advanced technique that uses sound waves to create a real-time moving image of your pet’s internal organs. Veterinarians find this technique particularly useful in diagnosing abdominal and cardiac problems. Ultrasounds can also detect tumors, foreign bodies, and other illnesses. We have invested in the latest veterinary ultrasound technology to provide quick and accurate diagnostics and treatment for your pet.

  • Diagnostic & Laboratory Testing

Our in-house laboratory and diagnostic capabilities allow us to have results to many tests in a short period. Our clinic performs extensive diagnostic tests, including complete blood counts and chemistry analysis, heartworm testing, tick-borne disease testing, thyroid testing, urinalysis, phenobarbital level testing, progesterone testing, fecal examinations, electrolyte blood gases, detect clotting issues, and more. Also, we are one of the very few veterinary clinics that can offer in-house cytology testing with results from a pathologist within two hours. All our in-house testing can be completed during business hours and have results within minutes, if not on the same day. Also, if necessary, we can send more complex lab work, such as biopsies, to specialized laboratories for analysis.

  • Pharmaceutical Services

Our in-house pharmacy can provide outstanding care to our clients and their patients. We have dedicated pharmacy technicians who can quickly assist you with any questions you may have about your pet's medication, refill your pets' prescriptions, and help you with options to place special orders when needed. By calling the clinic at 903-675-5708 and pressing option three when prompted, you will be redirected to one of our dedicated pharmacy technicians. Our pharmacy technicians' goal is to make sure that your pet quickly receives the medications prescribed to them by one of our veterinarians. Also, we have made refilling prescriptions more convenient for our clients. We have two options that will allow you to refill your pet's prescription quickly. You can either use the blue and white pop-up message to the right side of our website, which says "refill a prescription," or scan the QR code on your pet's prescription bottle and take you directly to the "refill prescription" option on our website.

  • Microchipping Services

Microchipping keeps your pet safe by making it easy to return your pet to you if they decide to wander. Microchipping is a minor and painless procedure that implants a tiny chip between your pet’s shoulder blades. Each microchip is encoded with your contact information and other important information about your cat or dog. Microchipping is available during any routine office visit. The procedure is straightforward, and an anesthetic is not required. Protect your pet with permanent microchip identification. Unlike a collar with id tags, a microchip can never be removed or lost!

  • End of Life Pet Care

Euthanasia is never an easy decision. We are here for you when the time comes. We know that it can be hard to imagine life without them. At some point, though, we will have to say goodbye, and when the time comes to help your loved one say goodbye with no more pain, we are here to help you in any way we can. Please call and schedule an appointment with us to make this time as comfortable as possible. When this time does come, we will need to know what you would like to do with your loved one afterward. You have the option to take your pet home for burial, or we offer memorial services and burial services.
